Jaeger LeCoultre Master Calendar

Jaeger LeCoultre Master Calendar
The Jaeger LeCoultre, in short JLC, Master Calendar is propably the greatest full calendar watches available in steel. I bought this watch at the beginning of this year when I was looking for a more complicated timepiece, that could also be worn on a daily basis. I was looking at several different timepieces at that time, but the JLC Master Calendar was my first choice.

On the wrist the Master Calendar, in short MC, has a very formal appearance. The mat black leather-strap perfectly matches the completely polished stainless steel case. The case is 39mm in diameter and 10.6mm high, resulting in a very wearable size for most people.

Essential for this timepiece is of course the full calendar complication. At six o´clock you will find the moonphase and small seconds display, as well as the indication for the automatic movement. At 12 o´clock just beneath the JLC Logo you will find the day indicator on the left and the month indicator on the right side. At the center of the dial you have the minute and hour hands, however you will only find hour or five minute indices on the dial, the minute indices were left out to to make the dial look more classic. The date is displayed via the central date hand, which has a small red moonlike end to let you easily find it on the dial. The date numbers are printed on the outside of the dial, just behind the applied hour indices.
Another detail, which is rather difficult to photograph, is on the minute and hour hands themselves. If you look closely, you will see that half of each hand is polished, while the other one is sandblasted, resulting in a very nice detail depending on how you look at the watch.

On the left side of the watch you can a pusher integrated into the case which is used for setting moonphase.

Jaeger LeCoultre Master Calendar Movement
On the right side of the case you find two other pushers, which are used to set the date and month.
The JLC in-house made movement calibre 866, is a self-winding movement featuring classical finishes. The rotor has a 22ct gold weight, winding the movement up to power reserve of 43 hours.
As you can see in the picture the movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case-back.

Finally the strap of the watch is closed with a doublefolding clasp, which has the JLC Logo engraved in it.

Conclusion

The JLC Master Calendar in stainless steel is at around 8700€, one of the best complicated watches, suitable for every day wear. The case is 5bar water resistant, which is about 50m, and sized well to easily fit most wrists. The watch did pass JLC´s in-house 1000 hours control test, which stands for highest quality in movement finishing, case finishing, and movement quality and precision.
