A few days ago I was seriously planning on buying the new Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000, which was re-introduced by Rolex at this years Baselworld.
While comparing the Sea-Dweller to the Submariner I asked if they had a white dial stainless steel Daytona in stock, so the lady showing me the two dive watches went off to check my inquiry.
A few moments later she came back smiling and showed me this wonderful timepiece, which you can see in the picture above.




At that point my interest in Sea-Dweller and the Sub vanished, I couldn´t take my eyes of the Daytona and I couldn´t take the Daytona off my wrist. I chatted a bit with the owner of the Jewelry Store and she told me, that in some case people who are way before me on the waiting list for this watch, prefer the black dial model. I personally would always prefer the white dial version over black dial one, but thats just my personal taste, as white dial Rolex watches look pretty amazing to me.

She then offered me to buy the watch if I would take it with me on that day, without hestitation I said and yes and bought the watch. I did spend more than 1000€ more than I would have done on the Sea-Dweller, but it was worth it.

So lets look at the specifications of this timepiece. As with all  steel Rolex Oyster models, the Daytona comes in 904L stainless steel, which is harder than most steels and easier to polish. The watch is waterresistant to 100m, so it won´t be bothered if you take it for a swim, snorkel or even dive with it. However using the chronograph pushers under water, will most likely let water enter the watch and damage the movement. The case 40mm in diameter, which makes the watch wearable by men and women alike and it won´t look too small or too big. The crown is Rolex´ patented triplock crown, which if screwed down correctly will block water and dust from entering the case.
The glass is made from saphire and the hands and inidces from white gold.
On the stainless steel bezel you will find the "Units per hour" engraving, which can be used to measure how fast you are going over a certain distance.

As I already said (wrote) the watch even fits on my smaller wrists.
The chronograph is activated and stopped by the pusher at two o´clock, the pusher at four o´cock resets the whole chronograph mechanism. The Daytona features a 60s central seconds hand, a 30min counter at three o´clock and a 12hour counter at nine o´clock.
At 6 o´clock you have a small 60s disc.

The movement of the Daytona is the Rolex in-house made calibre 4130, which is officially COSC certified and boasts a 72hour power reserve.

All in all the Rolex Daytona is an amazing timepiece, which is rather hard to get in stainless steel but easier in the different gold versions. It fits easily on mens and womens wrists and can be worn more legere with a simple shirt but also with a nice suit.
